If you have been following the news you may have run into Facebook and the rebrand, resulting in the birthing of Meta.

I don’t frequent social media platforms because I prefer not consume most of what people share and I’m not super social in this way but that has changed a bit since following the NFT art space on Twitter, Discord and Clubhouse.

I’ve noticed Meta has caused quite a stir in the already existing metaverse communities like Decentraland, Cryptovoxels, Sandbox, etc. Earlier this year I was seeing Decentraland plots selling for a huge amount of money. People creating, selling, trading 3D assets to use in these virtual spaces. Live concerts, horse racing, art galleries, games popping up. A lot of money being invested in these spaces by passionate people wanting to build and participate in metaverses that one could potentially share digital assets across. I knew this would blow up but wasn’t sure which would be adopted or have the most grit in the long run. Remember Myspace?

When Facebook launched Meta I noticed in particular, along with everyone else on Coinbase especially, that Decentraland’s currency called MANA begin to skyrocket. It’s been several days now and the price of MANA hasn’t tanked yet.

I think a large corporation like Facebook can be an advantage to entering the space in the public eye, they have been planning for this since their purchase of oculus and before most likely, but this may be a boost that is needed for adoption in this space. Build the best you can, educate, take care of your community and may the people choose what is best for the people in the long run 🙂
